VAERS Search Help

Getting Started

The VAERS database consists of many thousands of injury reports, called Events. Each Event has dozens of fields that describe the injury in different ways. Examples of fields are:
  • Symptoms: a description of what happened to the patient.
  • Vaccine given: including its Manufacturer, Dose, Lot Number, etc.
  • Demographics: age, gender, and state of residence of the patient.
  • ...many other fields are in the U.S. Government's data.
There are two steps to doing a search of the database: choose a set of events, and report the results. The default is to choose all events in the database, and to produce two reports: Table and Event Details. To see this default search result, go to the Search Form and click any of the "Find" buttons without making any other changes.

Section 1: Reporting Events

Section 1 of the search form lets you select how the chosen events will be reported. You can request tables, graphs, maps, or even the raw Event details.

Sections 2-6: Choosing Events

Sections 2-6 of the search form let you determine which events will be chosen for the reports and which will be ignored. By default, the entire database is chosen, but there are many ways to limit the search.
